The fifth grade Math book’s website is:  http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/.  Also, http://www.ixl.com/ is another website that is quite helpful and will sometimes be assigned for homework. 

 

The Math Word Problems are given out at the beginning of the week and are due back by the Friday of that week.  The students are to show their work in the work space AND explain their reasoning and process for solving the problem.

Subject Overview:  The units covered this year will include: The Diversity of Life, Environmental Science, and Water and Air.  The Science book’s website is: www.pearsonlearning.com. 

 

BookWater and Air – Chapter 3- Air (pg. 60 - 84):  The students will be discussing air, Earth’s atmosphere and the different layers, how heat moves through the atmosphere, air pressure, and how its measured, how winds form, what causes local winds and how wind is measured.

Subject Overview: The fifth grade curriculum begins with the five regions of the United States.  The students will then move on to learn about the continents and countries in the western hemisphere.  Ms. Paypnzeck will instruct on the five regions on Mondays and Fridays.  Miss MacMillan will instruct Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the Western Hemisphere.  The Social Studies publisher’s website is:  http://www.phschool.com/.

 The Midwest Region consists of the following 12 states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin,  Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.

The major water forms for the Midwest are: the 5 Great Lakes, Missipssippi River, Missouri River, Ohio River, St. Lawrence Seaway, and the Big Muddy.
