Spanish

¡Hola!  My name is Katie MacMillan, and I am happy to be joining AMBS as the Spanish teacher.  I am excited to be teaching Spanish to Pre- K 3 through 8th Grade this year!

In Pre-K 3 through 3rd grade we are learning vocabulary that will build the base for future Spanish learning.  Some of the topics we will cover are food, animals, family members, greetings, numbers, colors, and transportation.

In 4th and 5th grade we are learning vocabulary as well as beginning writing and speaking skills.  Some of the topics we are covering are: community, home, clothing, family members, food, greetings, numbers, object- description agreement, and doctor’s office.

6th and 7th grade students are learning the grammatical foundations of the Spanish language.  They are practicing their writing, speaking, and translating skills with passages, reading comprehension activities, and vocabulary skills.  Students in 6th and 7th grades are developing skills that they will build upon in their future studies of the Spanish language.

8th graders are furthering their Spanish knowledge by learning verb conjugation, writing skills, and speaking practice, cognates, as well as vocabulary.  Students will also develop their language through a variety of conversation, reading, and translating activities.

I believe that learning a foreign language is not just for learning in school, but is also for knowing for life.  That is why I believe in teaching material and skills that are pertinent to the students and what they could use in their lives.  I also believe it is important for students to learn about the culture of the countries whose language they are studying; allowing them to understand what life might be like in other countries where Spanish is spoken.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

¡Adios! Señorita MacMillan
