Curriculum
With regard to the following curriculum outline please be advised that each age group will have a quick review of the prior group’s objectives. For example, the early elementary classes will receive a review of the early childhood’s objectives. This is to ensure that the basics of computer and technology knowledge form a foundation upon which I can build. All students will be instructed on Internet safety and ethical computer use.
Early Childhood: Transitions and Kindergarten (Pre-K starting in January)
- Students will learn basic parts of a computer and how they interact with them.
- Students will be taught proper conduct around computers and proper care for computers, peripheral equipment, and software disks.
- Students will use educational games to enhance their classroom learning and develop problem-solving skills.
Early Elementary: 1st – 3rd Grades
- Students will learn keyboarding skills, such as proper finger positioning on home row keys, typing simple sentences, and usage of specialized keys.
- Students will be taught the basics of the Windows operating system and its components.
- Students will get high-level instruction on using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word.
Upper Elementary: 4th and 5th Grades
- Students will be taught expanded topics of the Windows operating system, such as how files are stored and managed, how to set up printers, and how to remotely connect to other computers.
- Students will learn how to search Windows and the Internet to receive help and assistance on certain topics.
- Students will be introduced to the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
Aquinas School: 6th – 8th Grades
- Students will receive in-depth instruction on the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) and how to integrate data across programs.
- Students will be taught how to build a basic web page using HTML and a software program such as Microsoft FrontPage.
- Students will be made aware of and discuss current technology issues such as online safety, privacy, viruses, copyright, and licensing.
